I am pleased to announce the following leadership changes for Food Forward (see our 2008-2009 Fact Sheet) as David Falkof and I will be graduating next weekend!
Food Recovery: Robby Bitting ’11 has already taken over the helm of the Food Recovery program for a full semester so he’ll continue to run it next fall. Next spring, he plans to study abroad so another active volunteer, Alex Haskins ’11 will be running it for that semester. Robby has taken over from David Falkof ’09, who founded the program in 2006.
Taste for Change: Drew Trafton ’10 will be taking over as next year’s point person for the Taste for Change program. Drew has worked in Thorne Hall for several years now as Display Cook and won the 2007 Polar Chef Competition. Also leading Taste for Change next year will be Chantal Crawley ’10 (another Thorne cook) and Nico Fenichell ’12. All three will be leading the program for the full academic year and as they get into their stride, they will develop more formal roles. Smartly, they will be dividing my former job into three much more manageable positions. I’m especially happy to have two Thorne employees since so much of the success of Taste for Change depends on our great relationship with Thorne and the good training that all Dining employees have in preparing food and cleaning everything up afterwards.
Thanks for your support of Food Forward over the past four years. When David, Katie, and I started this organization, one of the most important goals was leadership sustainability. We have some really talented students taking over next year and I’m confident that they will be taking both programs to new heights!
All my best,
Ian

We hosted our 15th Taste for Change dinner on May 8, 2009. 80 guests attended (a new record!) and we raised $720 (and counting) for projects that Kyle Dempsey ’11 and Brooks Winner ’10 are working on in Latin America. Most importantly, we served an incredible menu featuring fried plantains, pan-seared scallops, fresh Ahi Tuna, N.Y. Strip Steaks, and our Signature Desserts of Creme Brulee and Molten Chocolate Cakes with Caramelized Bananas.
Bobby Guerette ’07 (see www.robertguerette.com) was able to photograph the entire production for your enjoyment. All images are available for download from Flickr in high resolution.
Thank you for your support and stay tuned for the announcement of next year’s leadership team!
