The Bowdoin Student Government Assembly is the autonomous body of students that advocate for the student body through issue engagement, programming, and services. Our powers and responsibilities are provided to us by our student-ratified Constitution and Bylaws. The assembly consists of between 25 to 35 students in the following composition:
- 8 Executive Committee Members (President, Vice President, & 6 Functional Area Chairs)
- 4 Class Presidents
- 4 Development Representatives (underclassmen who seek to build their relationship with the BSG and get more leadership experience)
- Representatives for: Counseling & Health Services; Sexuality, Gender, & Relationships; Curriculum & Educational Policy; Curriculum & Implementation Policy; Faculty Development; Dining & Campus Services; Sustainability; Safety & Security; NESGOV (Northeast Student Government Conference) Coordinator; Athletics/BSAAC; Residential Life; McKeen Center; & Multicultural Coalition
- Head of Programming, Operations, & Communications
- Secretary
Structure
The BSG has six primary branches, each with a committee chaired by a member of the Executive Committee. As outlined by the Constitution, members of the BSG Assembly serve on each of the committees, excluding the SAFC and the SOOC, in addition to serving on the Assembly:
- Student Affairs Committee
- Academic Affairs Committee
- Student Organizations Oversight Committee
- Student Activities Funding Committee
- Facilities and Sustainability Committee
- Diversity & Inclusion Committee
Class Councils
Class Councils organize programming to help promote the social and structural unity of each class.Those interested in working for their class, planning events, and promoting class unity should definitely consider a position on their Class Council. There are five members of each Class Council, and all are elected except for the Communications Director, who is appointed:
- President (also sits on the General Assembly)
- Vice President (also sits on the Student Organizations Oversight Committee)
- Treasurer (also sits on the Student Activities Funding Committee)
- Programming Director (also sits on the Entertainment Board)
- Communications Director
