{"id":206,"date":"2012-03-21T12:45:51","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T17:45:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/students.bowdoin.edu\/hillel\/?p=206"},"modified":"2012-03-21T12:45:51","modified_gmt":"2012-03-21T17:45:51","slug":"presenting-2012s-annual-spindel-memorial-lecture-featuring-peter-cole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/students.bowdoin.edu\/hillel\/events\/presenting-2012s-annual-spindel-memorial-lecture-featuring-peter-cole\/","title":{"rendered":"Presenting 2012&#8217;s Annual Spindel Memorial Lecture, featuring&#8230;Peter Cole!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tBowdoin College is pleased to inform you that this year&#8217;s Annual <a href=\"http:\/\/bowdoin.edu\/academic-affairs\/funding\/endowed-lecture\/spindel\/\">Harry Spindel Memorial in Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Affairs<\/a> will feature Peter Cole of Yale University! \u00a0The lecture will take place on April 17th, at 7:30PM, in Kresge Auditorium in the Visual Arts Center. \u00a0The lecture is entitled &#8220;<em>The Poetry of Kabbalah, The Kabbalah of Poetry: Ruminations and a Reading&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Peter Cole is a poet and translator of poetry and prose from Hebrew and Arabic whose work has received much recognition, including a MacArthur Fellowship.  His familiarity with the contemporary Middle East and intimacy with medieval Hebrew come together in his recent book  (co-authored with Adina Hoffman): Sacred Trash: The Lost and Found World of the Cairo Geniza.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1977 by the gift of Rosalyne Spindel Bernstein, Honorary 1997, and Sumner Thurman Bernstein in memory of her father, Harry Spindel, as a lasting testimony to his lifelong devotion to Jewish Learning, this fund is used to support annual lectures in Judaic studies or contemporary Jewish affairs.
