We publish creative writing written by Bowdoin students and staff.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Quill<\/em>\u00a0was the successor to\u00a0<em>The Escritoir<\/em>, which was published only during the 1826-27 school year. According to the founders of\u00a0<em>The Quill<\/em>, \u201cwhile there was no lack of verses in\u00a0<em>The Escritoir<\/em>, there\u00a0<em>was<\/em>\u00a0a lack of poetry.\u201d So, a group of students headed by\u00a0<a title=\"Percival Proctor Baxter\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Percival_Proctor_Baxter\">Percival Proctor Baxter<\/a>\u00a0set out to revive Bowdoin\u2019s literary life and, in January 1897, the first issue of\u00a0<em>The Quill<\/em>\u00a0was published. It was originally published on the fifteenth of each month. In 1929, it was published four times a year; in 1932, three times a year; and in 1956, two times each year. From 1993 to 2010\u00a0<em>The Quill\u00a0<\/em>was published once a year, but beginning in the 2010-2011 school-year, publication rose again to once a semester. Notably, several of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet <a title=\"Robert P.T. Coffin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_P.T._Coffin\">Robert P.T. Coffin<\/a>\u2018s poems were published in the magazine while he was a student in the early 1900s.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But with the onset of COVID, the Quill hit some rocky waters. Publication ceased. The magazine was all but forgotten, nothing but a distant memory in the minds of alumni long settled in their post-grad literary\/consulting careers&#8230; until<\/span> Fall 2023, when Mei Bock \u201924 revived the Quill with the publication of the magazine&#8217;s 150th volume.
