COMMITTEE UPDATES:
[D&I]: No updates. Got to have a talk with DeRay last Tuesday and he talked about the role of class councils during his time at Bowdoin.
Angelica [Facilities and Sustainability]: Going to represent BSG at the Earth Day activity this Friday. Rock painting as an activity.
Harper [Student Affairs]: Talking about Ivies logistics. Only thing left is speakers. Will send an email this week giving all students the rundown.
Vincent [SOOC]: Working on club rechartering process. Form still open until Friday, as well as the club census form
Jonathan [Academic Affairs]: Met yesterday to present CEP with the syllabi initiative. Was found that is not an ideal time to present to CEP, so new chair Giovanna will take that initiative over
Abigail: End of year dinner on the 30th.
Harper: Form will be sent out with food options.
Blake [Class ‘27 President]: Working with Boody-Johnson on May 3rd to have a cookout in the backyard with games, student band, and merch.
Timmy [Class ‘26 President]: Having event to give out quarterzips
Alejandro [Class ‘25 President]: Senior week planning
APPOINTMENTS:
Elliott: Fall semester treasurer and programming director for the class of 2027 were vacant. So, the Exec Board reviewed applications and nominated Franco Ruocco for fall treasurer and Raghad Mohamed for programming director.
[APPOINTMENTS APPROVED BY ⅔ VOTE]
TCC GUIDELINES PUBLICATION:
Vincent: Purpose is to finalize and publicize the guidelines to the Treasury Chartering Commission (TCC) to the BSG website. Document discusses College and BSG policy, general policies, managing your club, club contracts, rules for maintaining club charter, club sports, political activity policy, other chartering sources, the role of the TCC, and revoking a charter
ELECTION RULES CLARIFICATION
Elliott: Want to amend the Bylaws to clarify the definition of “mass emailing” to “Campaigning through email using group aliases, mailing lists, and listserv, including those belonging to dorms, houses, classes, and clubs, is expressly prohibited.” Difficult to make strict rules regarding what constitutes a mass email. Not a large enforcement organization, but want to clarify vagueness.
Blake: Want elections and campaigns to be as fair as possible. Sending an email out to a certain amount of people makes the playing field uneven
Alejandro: What if each candidate is allowed one email to the whole grade saying who they are and what they’re standing for?
Abigail: Email makes sense to me as another avenue.
Aidan: Like Alejandro’s idea. Levels the playing field and makes candidates and their statements more accessible.
Nate: One reason we limit the number of emails sent to class lists is so you won’t all get too many emails. Easily doable if you want it
Nyla: Then there may be concerns of unfairness regarding whose email was sent first.
Alejandro: Could all be compiled to one email sent by BSG.
Elliott: Maybe we should table this for next week.
BUDGET 2025-2026
Harper:
- Polarflix increasing by $2000. Aso more than double the offerings
- Spring Gala
- Many parts of Ivies
- Discretionary funding is $250 each for the chairs.
- Student employees: Yellow Bike Club mechanics, secretary, social media and visual designer, BCR technician. Reduced in most cases but based on hours logged from last year
- Programming or things want to continue next year: Headspace, break shuttles, laundry sheets, Cold at Co
- $10,000 for “Proposal funding bin.” Open up room for representatives and committees to fund projects and events they’re interested in throughout the year. Hoping it would encourage and increase participation
- The process for approval is first voting on it here. If it passes here, will go with Alex to the treasury committee to present it and then wait to hear back from them
Nyla: What was the merch at Cold at Coe this year and what is the value of having it again?
Harper: Mugs and also one food truck, hot cocoa, and fire pits. Cost $1000 for the mugs. Partnered with WBOR to cover the rest
Harper: Was suggested to put forth the budget that you would want to see and would allow for the best BSG possible. This is ideal version, but if cuts are made we will adapt
Vincent: Where does the $10,000 figure for the proposal funding bin come from?
Elliott: Money that was representative for assembly members to feel comfortable in proposing things
Abigail: Checks out with the previous allocation of $2,000 per committee annually
[BUDGET PASSES AND WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE TREASURY]
