Introductions

  • Members of the BSG assembly introduced themselves to the larger group as a way to start fostering a sense of community and familiarity

Discussion on the Orient article

  • Abigail: the article was kind to BSG and reveals that there is a lot of behind-the-scenes work
  • Eisa: we should transform BSG’s presence to something that is more vocal; there is an idea that if you don’t see something, it doesn’t exist
  • Nate: BSG can help to stir the direction of President Zaki and what she wants to prioritize; we should encourage friends to attend meetings
  • Danielle: we should work to make BSG something less exclusive by opening access to the student body; must emphasize that we are here to vocalize their opinions
  • Paul: there is a disconnect between the student body and administration

Goals, norms, and expectations

  • Cash: Transparency, accountability, having a strong impact on campus, and building community within BSG are all important
  • Paul: Per the Constitution, you can’t miss more than 3 assembly meetings per year; if you’re on a committee, you must attend committee meetings; we want a feedback culture within BSG

Why we joined BSG and what makes for a successful BSG

  • Mundo: Joined BSG to do something about the thing that so many people complain about; experienced Bowdoin before COVID; has the opportunity to provide structures for the future
  • Abigail: Communication is an important part of a successful BSG; minimizing exclusivity is also key
