PUBLIC COMMENT
Comment: Will the new amendment be sent to all students?
Elliott: Yes
Comment: Why does the recall process differ from the referendum?
Elliott: Originally mirrored the referendum. Since it removes someone from office, moved the ⅓ quorum to ½ quorum
Comment: So referendum is a weaker statement than recall?
Elliott: Not saying that
Comment: BSG has not meaningfully engaged with criticism brought further.
COMMITTEE UPDATES:
Angelica [Facilities and Sustainability]: No updates
[D&I]: No updates
Max [SAFC]: SAFC has a little more money. One meeting on the first Monday we get back from break
Harper [Student Affairs]: Working on Ivies planning logistics. Putting a poll together to gauge interest of Bruns Apartments residents. Will be writing an email over break to put out the first week we’re back regarding behavior at Supers
Vincent [SOOC]: New club application closes this Friday. The rechartering form is now open and closes on April 18th
Jonathan [Academic Affairs]: Met with the Committee on Classroom and teaching Practice. They agreed we need BCRs and should keep them. The next step forward is whether to integrate BCQs and BCRs and if so, how.
A concern they presented was taking down any screenshots of BCRs with any identifiable information about professors.
Eisa: Shuttle update: there will be a van and charter bus on Friday. No other services.
Eisa: Deray Mckesson, a Bowdoin alum, will be coming to speak on April 8th. He was involved in the BLM movement early on, as well as Campaign Zero. He was heavily involved in student government at Bowdoin and was BSG president twice.
Elliott: Elections are coming up. Encourage people here to run.
CONSTITUTION
- Review of new constitution by Elliott
[MOTION TO VOTE ON NEW CONSTITUTION]
Need 16 (⅘ of 20) to pass
[PASSES]
Max: Explaining recall amendment: the referendum is just a student statement, while recall has the power to remove a student. For this reason, we set a higher bar of at least ½ of the student body constituting a quorum and ⅔ of voters constituting a successful recall.
Elliott: Going to amend the constitution according to the new constitution. Need one ⅘ vote today to pass, and then we will vote after spring break for it to be put it in the document.
