Match vs. UNE

We had a great, close match against UNE today. We played a mix of men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Thanks to all the players who came out: Ryan Powell, Hailey Blain, Diana Grandas, Patrick O’Connell, Jack O’Connor, Rebecca Londoner, Sam Honneger, Dave Peck, Caroline Godfrey, and Emily Licholai. Diana played a great women’s singles match and Jack and Dave dominated in men’s singles. Patrick and Ryan reprised their power doubles team from Sectionals, and Ryan played well in singles also. Rebecca and Caroline played a great doubles match, and each did well in singles. Hailey played doubles with Emily and Sam and a singles match.

Thank you to all the parents and friends that came out to support! Shout out to Ryan’s family for bringing great snacks, and Sophia Conwell for the pictures.

Sectionals Win!

Dear General Public,

Thank you for visiting our page. We are happy to have you. This past weekend, October 21st-22nd 2017 10 members of the Bowdoin Club Tennis Team, including Hailey Blain, Natasha Alvarez, Allison Wei, Ryan Powell, Diana Grandas, Andrew Phillips, Bella Tappin, Jack O’Connor, Patrick O’Connell, and Sam Honegger traveled to Cambridge, MA this weekend to compete in the New England USTA Club Tennis Sectionals Tournament. After 3 games on the first day in which we beat Williams and SNHU, Bowdoin achieved an unprecedented result: qualification for the Silver Bracket. On day two, we again showed up an hour before every other team to warm up, waking up at 5:30 am to meditate in preparation for the day. We beat yet another NESCAC school, Middlebury, closing out our win with an exciting mixed doubles match. We lost to Wesleyan, in a close match. We won more matches overall, but were down in games going into the mixed doubles match. Ultimately, we won the mixed doubles match and closed the gap in games, but lost to a very strong team by a mere 3 games. We then beat UMass Amherst in our last match of the tournament, securing our bronze medal in the Silver Bracket.

Overall, we had the best cheering, the most enthusiasm, the best parent snacks, the best alumni (who came to cheer us on–thanks!), and most camaraderie, and we are excited to continue to stay in contact with teams who we met at the tournament and plan matches for the rest of the year.

Best,

Bowdoin’s Club Tennis Team

First Match of the Season vs. Maine Orno

On September 30th the Polar Bears took on the UMaine Orono Black Bears in an epic showdown. The match featured dramatic doubles, spectacular singles, and magnificent mixed. Bowdoin had a clean sweep, winning over 15 matches. All in all, it was a fun day with great sportsmanship. We look forward to seeing UMaine at Sectionals in a short 10 days.

Thanks to Natasha Alvarez, Hailey Blain, Allison Wei, Sam Honegger, Rebecca Londoner, Ryan Powell, Diana Grandas, Andrew Raisner, Dave Peck, Jack O ‘Connor, and our fans.
