Prospective Ruggers

Join Us!

Bowdoin Rugby competes in the top tier of NESCAC and NCAA Division III competition. All experience levels are welcome!

“I’ve got it all: I’m good-looking, I’m educated, and I can play rugby. Ridiculous, isn’t it?”

Alun Wyn Jones

Prospective Students

The BRFC is always excited to welcome both experienced and inexperienced members to its team. Whether you are a prospective Bowdoin student interested in learning more about the game of rugby or have been playing your whole life, coaches and players alike would love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out to Coach Gareth Roberts at g.roberts@bowdoin.edu.

Being a club team also means having Bowdoin students from all corners of campus. If you are interested in hearing more about some other aspect of campus or school life. From volunteerism to anthropology to student council, ruggers are always happy to help.

Feel free to email Luv Kataria ’24 (President) at lkataria@bowdoin.edu, Masmo Miyakawa ’24 (Team Captain) at mmiyakaw@bowdoin.edu, or Nicko Aguillon ’24 (Team Captain) at naguillo@bowdoin.edu. You can also find us on Instagram and on Facebook.

Bowdoin Rugby FAQs

Do I need experience playing rugby? Or playing a contact sport?

Absolutely not! Most of our current roster includes players who have not played rugby before high school. Many students join the team with little to no experience and knowledge of the rugby rulebook. If you are worried about it being your first contact sport, worry no more. Most of our players have also not had much experience in a contact sport setting. We have a wonderful coaching staff including Coaches Gareth Roberts, Gary Devoe, and Rick Scala who are dedicated to making you the best rugger you can be at your time at Bowdoin.

What is the weekly practice schedule like?

A typical week consists of five days of practice: Monday through Friday from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm. The team usually also congregates after practices for a nice team dinner. During the season, matches usually take place on Saturdays. Saturdays are rugby days!

Where can I buy team merchandise?

Usually, we have a limited-time rugby merchandise store available online once per semester. When we have merchandise available for sale, we promote it on our social media sites. They usually require a username and password that is provided by the merchandise manufacturers, so make sure to follow us on Instagram and on Facebook!
