Call to Order

Keisha Payson, Directory of Sustainability

  • Office of Sustainability run by Keisha Payson and Christina Honeycutt
  • Office located in Rhodes
  • Biggest endeavor is working on evaluating their fossil fuels emissions and looking into Maine Solar
  • Additionally, waste management in the form of composting, trash, waste reduction on campus
  • Largest impact could have as a campus is through educating the student body
  • Outreach is hard to achieve but also so important
  • On the Bowdoin website, there is an interactive tour of sustainability on campus
  • Bikes and laundry have been the primary past BSG–Sustainability endeavors
  • Hoping to implement a bikeshare program – looking to buy new bikes, possibly checked out through library or by using an app like Citi Bike; accountability for care of bikes is most important
    • Harper: Could have half of bikes be for short trips (3hrs or less), and half for longer trips
    • Ollie: Will the Yellow Bike Club become obsolete?
      • Keisha: Have to figure that out; not sure could do/fund both YBC and bikeshare; might be moving towards newer/institutionalized bike program
    • Eisa: A docking station could be good; important to have the bikes get returned
  • Metro BREEZ – trying to reduce barriers and better publicize it to students
    • Camila: Liked that had many stops, especially in Portland, but also a bit confusing
      • Zahren: There is an app that shows live stops
    • Keisha: May have Metro BREEZ table
    • Brandon: May incentivize students to have a preloaded card with funds that could be used

Approval of Buying Eclipse Glasses

  • Eclipse in early April; thinking of buying 350 pairs of glasses for students
  • Voting: passed

BSG Merch

  • Sachin is leading committee on design and types of merch

Conversation about BSG Chief of Staff Role

  • New position that would be appointed by president and vice president
  • Role would focus on BSG culture and internal communications – planning retreat, reaching out to someone not attending meetings, sending emails, attending and summarizing Executive Board meetings,
  • Harper: Would this person be internal or external to BSG?
    • Paul: Could be anyone, but probably internal person who is compatible with president and vice president
  • Eisa: Could this be covered by the special advisor role?
    • Paul: That would probably be too much, especially for a position that is primarily designed for abroad juniors. Eleanor will be test-running this position this spring
    • Elliott: Is this a paid or unpaid position?
      • Paul: Unpaid

Ivies

  • Anyi: Organizing committee – need someone, ideally 21+, to attend training session for Harps quad on Friday of Ivies
