We couldn’t end the year without expressing our gratitude and appreciation of Sherrie Bergman, who this year is retiring.  An advisor to Hillel for over 12 years now, Sherrie has had a wonderful influence  on Hillel and has been incredibly important to Hillel’s development, maintenance, and growth.  Without a doubt, Hillel would not be where it is today without her expertise, perspective, an advice on many matters.  For this, Bowdoin Hillel is greatly indebted to Sherrie Bergman, and we would like to convey our deepest thanks for her many years of commitment and service to the Jewish community here at Bowdoin.

To learn more about Sherrie Bergman, we invite you to read the following article in the Bowdoin Daily Sun:  http://www.bowdoindailysun.com/bowdoin-college-librarian-sherrie-bergman-to-receive-2012-alumni-award-for-faculty-and-staff/

Peter Cole is a poet and translator of poetry and prose from Hebrew and Arabic whose work has received much recognition, including a MacArthur Fellowship. Established in 1977 by the gift of Rosalyne Spindel Bernstein, Honorary 1997, and Sumner Thurman Bernstein in memory of her father, Harry Spindel, as a lasting testimony to his lifelong devotion to Jewish Learning, this fund is used to support annual lectures in Judaic studies or contemporary Jewish affairs. The fund has celebrated Jewish culture and identity through lectures, music, photography, and film.
